room with a view

with summer around the corner i look for any possible reason to enjoy the beautiful weather outdoors. i am always on the hunt for patio seating, outdoor loungin and of course, amazing views.

Here are some of my favorite picks:

HIGH at Hotel Erwin - the recently rennovated Best Western has turned into a chic, non-pretentious (for now!) rooftop hangout with spectacular views overlooking the Venice pier and essentially all of Los Angeles. Great for groups or a date - they even give you blankets to cuddle in when the beach breeze gets too chilly. If you are hungry, opt for the downstairs eatery called HASH. HIGH is better for just drinks and a view in my book.

MOONSHADOWS - nothing beats watching the sunset alongside oceanside views, great drinks and food at Moonshadows in Malibu. Only downside is it may get too crowded in the summers.

SKYBAR at Hotel Mondrion - enjoy it while you can before the summer crowd kicks in! had a really great time here last sunday soaking in the sun and LA view. who can resist the oversized bed, comfy pillows and summer vibe all around?

in and out with a twist

50's diner meets modern burger joint. D-town Burger Bar in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles makes you say goodbye to the rest of the burger options out there. Simple yet ecclectic, their menu offering consists of sizzling burgers, chili dogs, refreshing shakes, and the oh-so-amazing sweet potato french fries! Another perk: they are open late, which is rare to find these days aside from the usual drive-thru. Enjoy the food and savor the surrounding art and decor.

get your ~ing on

Meet Gabrielle Bernstein: a gen y self-help maven who offers up a fun, active 30-day method for discovering true happiness; the "hip" way. After hearing about her work through a friend, I checked out one of her lectures last night and listened to her story, tips, and simple yet effective advice on how to live a life based on "~ing" aka your inner guide. Mixing spirit with spunk, Gabrielle is all about teaching women to bulldoze negative thought patterns and create personal change through a dynamic equation: Rethinking + Moving + Recieving x 30 days = Changing. After all, it is all about consistency! She offers a fresh approach to self transformation through a young and visual perspective and in many different avenues: book, social network, lectures, retreats, the list just goes on and on...this next generation guru is certainly making her mark.

a third dimension

Fashion has been the latest industry to hop on to the 3D trend. Burberry has staged the world's first-ever global 3D fashion show in London on Tuesday that aired in five major fashion capitals around the globe. A swarm of editors and fashion elite flocked to the exclusive screening to watch a parade of digitally projected models walk the runway in crocodile boots and leather aviator jackets through their 3D black rims.

What do you think of the 3D fixation in fashion?

blow me away

after wanting to see what all the hype was about surrounding drybar, Brentwood's new 'blowdry only' hair salon, i must say, i was truly blown away (pun intended) . not only have they devised a convenient and simple concept, it was the execution and brand image that really impressed me. they took it a step further in differentiating themselves from what's currently out there and set the bar high for any future competition.

just some of the things i especially liked:
  • simplicity: no cuts, no color, just blowouts - $35 (regardless of texture/length) with names such as Mai Tai, Cosmopolitan and The Manhattan
  • atmosphere: modern and chic
  • convenience: online appointment bookings and monthly memberships
  • relax: sip on cucumber water, bellini's and mimosa's as you watch flicks like 'sex and the city' & 'devil wears prada'

    overall, very smart execution.
